My Story

“My works are an expression of surrealist fantasies, in a style that flicks between futuristic and traditional art aesthetics, intertwining elements of Criminology, History, Afro Futurism, Surrealism, Film Noir and Pop Art into a melting pot of bold, graphic, visceral hard-hitting modern art that is becoming increasingly sought after by art collectors worldwide.”

This series delves into the realm of my imagination, where I've crafted a unique art form called "Psychedelic Photographic Painting." Combining studio photography, graffiti-inspired street art, digital manipulation, and mixed-media painting techniques, I use my camera and digital skills to blend colors, textures, ink, paint, acrylics, and pen, all while playing with light and shadow. "At the heart of 'Painting in a Fury' lies the fusion of diverse photographic styles – studio portraiture, graffiti, and paint. It pays homage to 1980s street art with a touch of Noir cinema. Inspired by luminaries like Richard Hambleton, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, this series reimagines studio portraiture, weaving together vibrant colors and textures. There's a subtle criminological undertone, an extension of my earlier work in contemporary Film Noir photography, where I explored darkness, ambiguity, and spiritual corruption.

These new pieces offer Technicolor renditions of enigmatic characters, dark sensuality, and intricate criminal narratives. This blend of mixed media, digital photography, and social commentary pushes artistic boundaries, inviting viewers to question whether each piece is a painting, photograph, or a harmonious blend of both. My goal is to provoke deep political and criminological contemplation. While primarily self-taught, I've also pursued formal education in American History and Film, earning an MA from Nottingham University. This diverse background continuously informs my bold, graphic, and painterly style. I first gained recognition for monochromatic photo manipulations inspired by Film Noir, which evolved into a psychedelic aesthetic, drawing from German Krautrock and Italian Film music of the late '60s and early '70s.

My creative process starts with my camera capturing various subjects, from portraits to street scenes. These images undergo transformation through Photoshop and canvas work, often incorporating paints and acrylics. The challenge of experimenting with different mediums has been incredibly rewarding. Years of practice and experimentation have allowed me to articulate my ideas within my studio space, aiming to create multi-layered artworks deeply intertwined with my personal life, spiritual aesthetics, and experiences. Narrative and storytelling are fundamental in my work, inspired by my passion for cinema and film. Genres like Noir, Horror, and Sci-Fi fuel my subconscious creativity, giving birth to surreal and captivating creations from my imagination. Trusting the unconscious process is key to exploring exciting new dimensions in my work.
